My husband, our toddler and I stopped here for lunch the other day and it was beyond our expectations. We were on vacation and unfortunately we didn't eat there until our last meal before we left town. The lunch special is a crazy good price for the amount of food and the high quality. We are way too into falafel, and were skeptical given the locale, but it. Was. So. Good. The only negative is that it didn't reheat well. So, just eat it all while you're there. Go. You won't be disappointed.

Nice try but decor seriously lacking and service was a little better than terrible. We were in Michigan City to shop at Lighthouse Point and used Yelp to find a restaurant for dinner. Not sure what happened here but we were very disappointed. The gyro platter was the best thing and we could have gotten that at any fast food gyro place. I did like the bacon covered date app though.

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch and the food was very good. We ordered the baba ganouj appetizer and it was the best baba ganouj I have ever tasted. We could tell that it had been made fresh that morning. My boyfriend ordered a chicken pita, which he really enjoyed, and I ordered a falafel bowl with rice, hummus, red pepper, and feta. It was delicious. Everything tasted so fresh. Each of our lunch orders cost $9, which seemed a little overpriced before we received our food, but seemed perfectly fair once we tasted the deliciousness.

Best thing to do here: get a bunch of stuff and share it! Here's what my table got- hummus, tzatziki, tabbouleh, spanakopita, falafel, tawook, and kefta kabobs. Everything was amazing! Enjoy! The spanakopita was just simply amazing! Perfect amount of spinach and tomato cream sauce. The kabobs were good...don't leave the tomatoes on your plate! Seriously they're amazing! Of the dips I tried the tabbouleh was my favorite. Eat the pickled turnip on the side of the plate! It's yummy! Don't drive past this place!

The food is excellent and the people are friendly and helpful. If you're not familiar with the cuisine just ask your server, they know the menu and can explain it very well. We have dined here several times, ordering from both the brunch and dinner menus. We have been pleased each time with the taste and quality of the food. Prices are very reasonable and the people tare great. Highly recommended.

Moe and his new restaurant are great. We loved Sahara and P&T is even better. Not only do you get great food made with all natural fresh ingredients but you get someone who really cares about giving you a great dining experience. Great food. Great wine and beer selection. Great wait staff. If you like gyros his are so big I've never seen anyone finish it. Also gotta try the fresh lemonade.

Amazing food. Moe had a lunch buffet with vegetarian items, saffron chicken, lamb meatballs and a variety of salads. So delicious

More like pickles and poo. Ordered Kefka kabob with rice. Four little baby turds arrived. So much for presentation. Whatever spice they use was way too overpowering. Even asked waitress what spice it was. She had no clue and said the cook didn't either. Wtf. Must be premade and shipped in from an asshat. First and last time. Eggplant was way oily and spongy. Seriously want my money back. Almost had to stop to pick up some depends for ride home.

Though I was fine with the atmosphere of Sahara - this restaurant is also nice, but in a different way. Friendly service, great wine list. Had a nice red from Israel which was excellent. I thought portions for appetizers were a little small. Like the hummus, tabbouli, baba ganoush, etc. Falafil was overcooked which was a shame since this should be one of their staples. Chicken very good. I knew this is a new restaurant, and Im sure they will improve in time.

The eggplant salad was terrific as we're the chicken shawarma and grape leaves. We were passing through and read a few reviews and decided to try it. Highly recommend it and thanks yelp!

My honey and I were in town staying at the Blue Chip for our anniversary and decided on this restaurant for our anniversary dinner. We really couldn't have picked a better place! First Impression: Cute little place with an original feel. Right away we mentioned it was our anniversary; after that the red carpet came rolling out. We were treated with such caring and compassion which really made us feel comfortable and at home. Drinks: We're more into beer than wine, but P&T had a nice selection of both. They even had craft beer glasses to match the beer you were drinking, always a nice touch. Food: We started with roasted red pepper hummus and tzatziki. OMG...fantastic!! Nothing beats homemade hummus and tzatziki. For entree I went ahead with the Tawook and was extremely pleased with my choice. The seasoning on the chicken was delicious, the rice was so buttery, and the veggies were grilled perfectly. My honey ordered the lamb chops which were equally delicious. The portions are just right as well! Dessert: We were pleasantly surprised with complimentary baklava in celebration of our 3 wonderful years together. I thought this was such a sweet gesture and really made for a nice end to our meal. The dessert itself was fantastic; probably the best baklava I've ever had. Overall Impression: I honestly don't know the next time we will be in the area, but if we ever are this place is definitely on our list. I recommend Moe open up a place in the Chicagoland area! Thank you guys for making our anniversary that much more special!

I'm so glad what I loved about Sahara just moved to a more convenient and beautiful location. I went a couple of weeks ago, their opening weekend and everything was delicious, the hummus, the wine, of course the gyros and the halibut special was out of this world. Best restaurant in Michigan City and I can't wait to go back. The rice was also great, very flavorful and fragrant. (Though I do wish they'd put the chicken kabobs back on the menu.)

I went opening weekend so not everything was available yet, but can't wait to make it back next time I'm town. I've loved all of Moe's restaurants and this is no exception. Lovely space, good service, and wonderful food. Even if at a slightly higher price point than the previous restaurants.

Food is good. The location is great, and the inside is quaint and special. I would recommend the food. The owner is really nice and seems to on occasion check in on the guests. Oh before I forget to mention ..the falafel is really tasty.

I will try this place again. Went for lunch. Servers need to know how to pronounce menu items. I am not even greek but they butchered spanakopita so badly i didn't know what they were saying. Plus, i don't know how you open a restaurant with no water. This particular day, they had no water so only offered bottled drinks? Isn't that a health issue

What used to be the Sahara is now Pickle and Turnip, and moved down the street. Same wonderful Middle Eastern food, less crowded. We live in PA, but visit Michigan City once a year. Great to see this place flourishing. We order several "Specialties" to split, which they not only gladly accommodate, but encourage. Excellent food, pleasant atmosphere, friendly and competent waitstaff. I don't normally recommend specific dishes because tastes differ so much, but the Kefta Quesadilla is ambrosia.

This is our local go-to restaurant. Their eggplant is out of this world and one of my favorites. Seth is our favorite waiter and we love the owner, Moe, to bits!! It is nice to go somewhere in our small town and know that each time I am going to leave happy and with a full belly. PS And if there is some way to sell that lemonade by the gallon...sign me up!!

I bought a Groupon for this restaurant like 2 months ago and decided to go here with my sis in law, nephew and friend for lunch after going to the nearby outlet mall. The host welcomed us with a smile and from then on everything felt so welcoming. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We went for the buffet and it was delish! I love mediterranean food I would go back to eat here. I would recommend this restaurant.

Some of the food was edible, most looked nice but tasted wretched. Owner is a complete asshole, screaming at staff, making a scene in his own restaurant and totally disrupting any form of enjoyable dining experience. Wait staff was very friendly and helpful but tough to ignore the owner/cooks ridiculous outburst. Ill never go back and no one with any self respect would ever support a jerk like that. My favorite part was the screaming racial slurs and explicit comments about GLBT customers.

Delicious food! Very friendly owner and staff. It's middle eastern/mediterranean food, so you're bound to recognize a few things on the menu, but there's also some authentic specialties which are fun to try. Everything has been very good and it all seems like original homemade recipes. I've already been to this new location/name a couple times.

I dined at The Pickle and Turnip today with my mom and grandmother for Mother's Day - we had come from Chicago for the day and had found them online as the only vegan-friendly place in town. We were so happy with not only the delicious vegan-friendly cuisine, but the waitstaff and owner, Mark, went out of their way to accommodate us. I can't say enough great things about the fantastic food and fantastic customer service! Thank you, and we'll definitely be back!

A young lady at the outlet mall recommended The Pickle and Turnip when we asked for a suggestion. We had no idea we would find such a treasure in Michigan City, IN on a Sunday evening. Our server, Sarah, was fantastic and was more of a guide, listening to our questions and leading accordingly. We started with a 2 dip appetizer of hummus and tabouli and then shared small plates of lamb sliders, spanakopita and seared scallops. We truly could not pick our favorite. We finished with Turkish coffee and called our niece who lives in Elkhart before we left to sing it's praises. We live in Holland, MI and would happily go back for an adventurous date night!

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!!! The owner was so rude and disrespectful to my friend while we were there. Do your self a favor and don't waste your money! The food was slightly ok but the screaming from the owner and cook was unbearable. I will never return.

Had never visited a favored 'Moe' restaurant b spent an evening dinner w my dad while I was in town and enjoyed the experience so much. The warm pita and great beer selection started my experience off right. The Greek salad was light and perfect. I opted for the pizza of the day and was in heaven when I bit into the Lebanese pizza with fresh strips of veggies, feta and lamb crumbles. To top off the experience Moe himself checked on us an spent some time discussing the change in menu with both of us. He seems authentic, real and caring. I give this experience a rare 5 stars and will definitely visit again next time I'm in town!

What a great find! The hummus was fantastic. All the food had a great balance of flavors and the staff was friendly. We loved Seth. Prices also very reasonable.

Enjoyed the fried plantains, lamb quesadilla and gyro sandwich. Food was delicious. We were looking forward to trying falafel and were disappointed that they didn't have any. It's not like there was a huge crowd and they ran out. They simply didn't have any around lunch time mid week. We will have to come back next time we go to the outlet mall. ;-)

I've visited three times and eaten here twice. The food is delicious, but honestly how hard is it to find great middle eastern food? The place has a nice decor, but not nice atmosphere. The service is part of the atmosphere of a restaurant. The staff here do not seem to like their jobs, do not seem to want to be here, and definitely have no concern for the happiness of the guests. Not an enjoyable experience at all.

Great fresh, homemade Middle Eastern food, especially considering it's in Michigan City. One of the best spots to eat in the area.

What a delicious surprise! The food at this Mediterranean/middle eastern bistro was flavorful, authentic, and varied. They have all the expected things but it was the more unusual dishes that sold me (feta stuffed dates, mummahara, etc). We stopped by while driving from Chicago to Kalamazoo and this is as good--or better--than anything in Chicago. Charming, fairly upscale dining room. Super competent service. Great options for vegetarians. Very accommodating with kids even though it isn't really a "kid" place. I'll be back!

After spending an evening out at Washington Park on the lighthouse pier, my girlfriend Jackie and I were looking for some great food. Being this early in the season we found a lot of places not yet open. We were about to give up when we found the Pickle and Turnip. I had never been to a Lebanese restaurant but really enjoy Mediterranean food. This little place is a crown jewel. The atmosphere, bar, dining room, and everything else about this place is wonderful. Jackie and I are both so happy with our experience we plan to make this a regular "special" place will be hanging out often. The patio is not open yet but were thinking that is going to be where we have many great evenings. Our waitress Erin was very helpful with the menu and was just absolutely outstanding. You must put this place on your to do list when visiting Michigan city this summer.

What's a nice place like this doing in downtown Michigan City? I don't know, but it's a charming spot to meet somebody for lunch. The space is pleasant, roomy, and bright, the staff is helpful and casual, and the food is pretty good. If I were nit-picking I'd say that the "sumac" fries weren't crisp, and I they had no discernable trace of this alleged sumac on them. Also that the tzaziki sauce was indistinguishable from yogurt with a bit of thyme sprinkled on top. But the greek salad and lamb sliders were both solid. So the food trends a little toward the underseasoned, but knowing that I simply would have ordered a little differently.
